Just a quick note

The Sea Spray was just the first place we looked at on our quest to find the new future we're dreaming of... the first of many. Keep in mind that when we saw them, it was only the beginning of August. Since then, we've looked at a half dozen other places, some seriously, some humorously.

I'm just spacing it out to increase the suspense! hahaha!

We are in serious talks right now to take over and run a motel in Washington, but I've got a lot of ground to cover before we get there!

A quick thought...one other thing I remember about the due diligence process was an environmental audit. I know this might seem wierd when you are looking at buying a motel, but some things to look out for are any underground fuel tanks or liquids in unmarked barrels in a garage or storage shed. You never know where a Texaco station was located 50-60 years ago but there's an environmental footprint those old filling stations that would bankrupt an unsuspecting purchaser. Other toxic sites are former dry cleaners. Also use all your investigative resources you have to check into local ordinances and state laws that could affect your future business.

That's a great note, thanks! We'll definitely need to look into that kind of thing! I would imagine with us being at sea level that this kind of thing would be especially important.

So do I get a blogger tour of the rest of the prospects too?

Naturally! My hope is to make it to the present by some point in mid February, which, unless something wonderful happens that we're hoping for, this blog could become a bunch of book reviews and comments about starting all over again...

So again, my hope is to make it to the present by the future, which by then will be the past.... Maybe I shouldn't type when I'm tired...
